It’s that time of year! Patriotic parties, barbecues, family and fireworks are all things that we at Great Smiles look forward to every Fourth of July. While there’s sure to be lots of candy, soda and cake that satisfy the red white and blue color scheme, why not offer some teeth friendly patriotic food to your guests this year? We’ve listed out some great options that fulfill the patriotic theme and keep your teeth feeling great!
Strawberries are the first thing that comes to our mind when we think of red food for teeth! Full of stain removing malic acid and a great source of Vitamin C to keep your gums and teeth healthy, this is our red food of choice for Fourth of July parties. Mixed into a fruit salad or eaten all by themselves, these tasty berries are sure to keep your sweet tooth satisfied. Just make sure you floss after you eat them to keep seeds out of your teeth!
Apples are a great addition to any party menu: they taste great and have a load of tooth benefiting qualities! Chewing apples helps produce saliva which helps rinse away bacteria and food particles, the fibrous texture stimulates your gums and helps scrape away plaque, and apples contain malic acid (like strawberries) that helps keep your teeth pearly white. Other fantastic additions to your white menu needs are dairy products, like milk yogurt and cheese, which are high in calcium and phosphorous – both are essential minerals that help strengthen your teeth and enamel.
What else comes to mind besides blueberries and blackberries? Both of these blue-hued berries are packed full of antioxidants and Vitamin C. Antioxidants go hand in hand with protecting teeth and fight inflammation and periodontal disease; Vitamin C helps your body maintain and repair your teeth.
Enjoy the red, white and blue foods that your teeth will thank you for! Make a fruit salad or eat them on their own – there’s no wrong way to do it. As always, we’re happy to help you with your dental questions and concerns. Feel free to give our Carlsbad or Solana Beach office a call, and have a happy and safe Fourth of July everyone!
